Fredericka Brandeis, mother of United States Supreme Court Justice, Louis Dembitz Brandeis, said it well:

"...I believe that only goodness and truth and conduct that is humane and self-sacrificing toward those who need us can bring God nearer to us, and that our errors can only be atoned by our acting in a more kindly spirit...."

Justice Brandeis apparently treasured his mother's words.
Throughout his life, he sought to associate with people of virtue.

He found them here in Boston:

  • 1st, among Protestant academics affiliated with Harvard University.
He particularly shared mutual admiration with President Eliot.

  • 2nd, among Irish Catholic labor leaders of the late 19th century.
He particularly shared mutual concerns with Mary Kenney.

  • 3rd, among Jewish garment workers and employers.
He considered himself a partner in spirit with New York laborers and Boston's Filene brothers in seeking to understand both perspectives of employees and employers.

  • 4th, among Zionists who were trying to re-create a Jewish commonwealth in Palestine as early as the 1890s.
He considered their dedicated idealism to putting Bible values into practice amazing.
They considered him a worthy friend who could advance the idea of a home for the Jewish people.

BostonWalks, publishers, seeks to publish guidebooks
which advance the re-discovery of Brandeis' Boston
and the Jews' Ten Commandments!
